Out of country weddings are always a highlight for me and Will & Brittany’s wedding did not disappoint!
Will and Brittany are both super fun and easygoing. The evening before their wedding I got to spend some time with them and their cousins. I didn’t know either of them from before, but I realized very quickly that they aren’t shy. We spent the evening chilling at their house, sharing music, chatting and laughing at jokes. To me this is a very important part of being a wedding photographer. I love getting to know people as more than just clients, because connection matters. It matters for the photos and it matters for the experience. I truly believe that the pictures turn out better when the couple knows and trusts their photographer on a personal level. For local weddings, I always include an engagement session in all my packages and do an in-person meeting with the couple (sometimes just the bride) before the wedding for the very purpose of getting to know each other. Since Will and Brittany were out of country and I hadn’t met them before, I was very grateful for this opportunity to spend some time with them before the big day.
Brittany wanted all the formal pictures taken at Magnolia Market in Waco and they turned out so beautiful! I could have spent the entire day taking pictures because there were so many beautiful spots.
The forecast had called for rain but the morning dawned bright and sunshiny with some clouds coming up later in the day. It was quite warm and sultry, so when the best man offered to buy lemonade for the girls, it was an extra special treat.
I could go on and on about this day, but I’ll just share a few of my favorites from the reception and then we can move on to the pictures. Will and Brittany had their bridal party play a lively game of scavenger hunt/musical chairs where they collected items from the wedding guests and ran back to their chairs. But every time they went and collected the items, one chair was taken away so the last person to return didn’t get a chair and was out of the game. This continued until just two people were left and then they got to go around with the bride and groom’s shoes to collect money.
Another unique thing Will and Brittany did at their reception was decorating a cake together. They had two large halves of a heart-shaped cake that they pushed together and then decorated it with frosting and berries. After cutting a piece for themselves, the cake was served to the guests. I loved the fun twist it added to the traditional cake cutting tradition!
And now on to the pictures!
